Tatanka Wichohan (Buffalo Teachings)

Tatanka Wichohan—often understood as “the Buffalo Way of Life”—reflects a deep and enduring relationship between people, land, and buffalo. This gathering will bring together Indigenous leaders, Knowledge Keepers, producers, youth, and partners from across the country to share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and advance a collective vision rooted in stewardship, food sovereignty, and sustainable economic opportunity.

Over the course of two days, participants will engage in meaningful dialogue, cultural teachings, and collaborative discussions focused on:
– The cultural, spiritual, and historical significance of the buffalo
– Community-led approaches to land stewardship and herd restoration
– Strengthening Indigenous-led agriculture and food systems
– Building partnerships across sectors to support long-term sustainability
