SUMMARY:Buffalo Beyond Borders 2026 Conference
DESCRIPTION:Gathering Details\nWhere: \nDrury Plaza Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk\n105 S St. Mary’s St\, San Antonio\, TX \nWhen: \nApril 13–17\, 2026\n(Please see the Agenda Overview Below) \nWhat to Expect: \nThis gathering\, in partnership with the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project\, represents a powerful convergence of place\, lineage\, and living systems. By bringing together Indigenous leaders\, partners\, scientists\, policy advocates\, and relatives to reconnect with buffalo\, land\, and one another\, we aim to move shared work forward. Together\, this time offers space not only for strategy\, but for remembrance\, repair\, and renewed relationship that sustain both people and the lands we care for. \nTogether\, we will explore what it means for the spirit of the buffalo to move beyond borders through coordinated actions in science\, policy\, and narrative change\, grounded in Indigenous-led leadership and lived experience. \n\nGathering Design\nTo support deeper connection and collective momentum\, there is a single registration option\, and we ask participants to plan to attend for the full duration of the week. \nRather than centering reports and presentations\, this gathering will emphasize strong facilitation\, active participation\, and collaborative problem-solving. Sessions are designed to be engaging\, relational\, and action-oriented\, with the goal of leaving San Antonio with shared commitments and next steps for buffalo restoration. \n\nWe also approach this gathering as a ceremony for the buffalo\, a time to call in our boldest visions\, honor the land and our relatives\, and feel the support of the earth holding us all. \n\nRegistration & What’s Included\n** Early Bird Registration ($50 off) is available through March 2. ** \n\n\nMonday Evening Welcome Reception \n\n\nLunches throughout the Gathering \n\n\nCoffee and Refreshments \n\n\nField trip and roundtrip transportation to the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project herd in Floresville\, located at their recently rematriated 150-acre ranch. \n\nField Trip Highlights: \n\n\nTipi Talks \n\n\nBuffalo Harvest\n(The meat from the harvest will be going to to the mothers in the Meat for Mamas Program and the San Antonio Health Equity Network.) \n\n\nRegistration and transportation for the Floresville field trip are fully included in the Buffalo Beyond Borders registration and are a central part of the gathering\, not an optional add-on. Donations to the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project are welcomed and appreciated\, and can tickets can be purchased here.

SUMMARY:North American Summit on Collaborating With Wildlife in Park Gateways
DESCRIPTION:What is the purpose of the Summit?\n\n\n\n\nDrawing large\, multi-sector participation from across the continent\, the CW Summit aims explore\, establish\, and resource Models & Methodologies for Collaborating with Wildlife (CW)  impacting the way North American societies understand and act toward native species. It acts on the basis that wildlife and humans are not separate but together part of a single\, interconnected system—while acknowledging that wildlife are losing the competition for resources and habitat occupation. CW evolves concepts of wildlife as merely subordinate\, consumptive resources\, or threats to human health and safety. Instead\, CW acts on a concept of wildlife as intrinsically and functionally collaborative toward sustaining nature. \n\n\nWhy Park Gateways?\n\n\n In the CW Summit context\, the term “park” generically describes protected natural areas maintained for wildlife. Accessible parks draw increasing tourism and recreation and attracting new residents bringing development to park outskirts. Being lost at a rapid clip are the family farms\, ranches and other areas which often serve as extended open space for park wildlife. Land and ocean habitats alike are increasingly traversed by traffic and changed by infrastructure. Displacement\, intolerance\, and habitat loss are common challenges for wildlife venturing outside today’s parks.  \nTuesday\, May 18\, 2026 \n7:45a              Doors open \n8:00a              Morning Coffee & Tea \n8:30a              Welcome & Introductions \n9:00a              Summit Keynote \n9:30a              Prologue: 1800s Destruction of Wildlife Across the Continent \n10:00a            What is Collaborating with Wildlife? \n10:30a            Break \n10:50a            Why Park Gateways? \n11:20a             Investing in North America’s Wildlife \n11:50a             Summit Program Overview & Workgroups Process \nNoon              Lunch Break \n1:30p              Workgroup Set 1 \n3:00p             Break \n3:30p             Workgroup Set 2 \n5:00p-7:00p  Welcome Reception  \n \nWednesday\, May 19\, 2026 \n7:45a              Doors open \n8:00a              Morning Coffee & Tea \n8:30a              Workgroup Set 3 \n10:00a             Break \n10:30a             Workgroup Set 4 \n12:00p             Lunch Break  \n1:30p               Panel Dialogues on Workgroups 1-4 \n3:00p              Break \n3:30p              Workgroup Set 5 \n5:00p-7:00p   Reception: Visions & Cultural Expressions of North America’s Wildlife Return \n\nThursday\, May 20\, 2026 \n7:45a               Doors open \n8:00a               Morning Coffee & Tea \n8:30a               Workgroup Set 6 \n10:00a             Break \n10:30a             Workgroup Set 7 \n12:00p             Lunch Break  \n1:30p               Workgroup Set 8 \n3:00p               Break \n3:30p               Panel Dialogues on Workgroups 5-8 \n5:00p-6:00p   Closing & Tribal & First Nations Ceremony \n \nFriday\, May 21\, 2026 \n8:30a-Noon    Port of Corpus Christi Wildlife Rescue Operations Center & Texas State Aquarium Tour: Field Trip for Participants (Additional Registration Required) \n\n(Preliminary Draft – Subject to Change)
